Business Process Management

Business Processes are a group of activities which are recurring in nature and contribute significantly to the growth and development of the business. Managing these activities efficiently so that maximum business benefit can be captured is better known as Business Process Management. If you think that Business Process Management deals with mundane tasks, you are very far from the truth. Large organizations with good business process management skills have even managed to put an abstract activity such as Innovation as part of their process management cycle. Even thinking or strategizing for the future is part of a Business Process. Thus the first step in understanding Business Process Management is to understand the range of activities which qualify as Business Process and only then can they be documented and subsequently managed.
The first step when implementing Business Processes in any organization is to understand the lifecycle of a business process. Key questions which need to be answered are ‘when does the process get triggered?', ‘which business activity does it impact?', ‘what are the steps in business process?', ‘What the key parameters against which they can be measured?' and so on.
Once these key questions are answered and documented, you can put see the outline of a defined business process. All business activities are made up of multiple business processes and business process management is to make sure that these processes are working together for the greater benefit of the organizations. Some of the key points to consider when setting up business processes are discussed in the rest of this article.
Keep in mind that these processes will be managed by people. A business process should not be very rigid; neither should it be too open ended. There should be some room for innovation within the process as well as that is the business process can be improved over a period of time. Many management gurus consider successful organizations those which have captured the DNA of a business process within their working framework.
Simple documentation and automation also makes business process automation work in the long run. If you are using software to automate your business process, it should be made sure that people have been suitably trained on it and rather than change the way of working of the company, the software conforms to the process that you already follow. The automation should be complimentary to business and not anti-productive. It is imperative to remember that Business Process Management is suppose to save time and resources in an organization and should be approached with that principle in mind.
Adherence to Business Process throughout the organization is a must for any organization to gets it full impact. Developing or outlining a business process without true permeation with the company, is like giving a bird wings but asking it not to fly. It is successful implementation and following of a set business process which will save time and money in the organization and bring about greater efficiencies. Following business processes also helps in getting the most out of the people employed in the company without going back to the drawing board each time a familiar situation comes up.
The term Management in Business Process Management makes this activity an ongoing one. One a business process has been set and put in automated or semi-automated motion, it is critical that the process is reviewed at regular intervals to evaluate the affectivity of the process. A facility to maintain feedback from users of the process much be implemented and periodical review of the process and feedback from users will help in implementing changes and improving the process on an ongoing basis. A mature organization is one which has managed to implement the Business Process of Managing Business Processes effectively.The Business Process Management process has been an established business activity for quite some time. There are some basic things that should be included in your business plan.

The business summary is an integral part of the overall business plan and should start with a brief description of the entire business. After this, list the objectives or the goals that you want to accomplish through the business.

Next, and perhaps most importantly, you should develop your marketing plan. The marketing plan should address all the specifics of the business. When developing the marketing strategy, you should consider the following:

1.The TARGET MARKET.
This is the customers that you expect to see visiting your site. For example, will your product appeal more to college students or to those who have retired?

2. The COMPETITION for your product.
Choose a product that will be seen as unique and useful. Visit sites that offer the same or similar products. Find out the cost, and how these products are being marketed. Research the pros and cons of these business methods and try to improve your product based on these flaws of your competitors.

3. The various methods for ADVERTISING ONLINE.
Do research on search engines and learn how they work as each one is different. Make sure that you learn how to submit your site to search engines. Be prepared to allocate a small amount of money on advertising; the profits gained from the advertisements will make your investment worth it.

4. Think about PRICING.
Again, look at the competition and see what similar products are selling for. Pricing can play a significant role in the success of your product. Selling a product well below the average market price may lead customers to think that there may be a problem with the product, or that it is inferior in quality. On the other hand, pricing items too high could also deter customers from purchasing.

5. Determine the SHIPPING METHOD.
Make sure that you know how products will be shipped so that shipping details are clearly posted on your website. When shipping things of great value, you should consider providing shipping insurance. Consider also shipping outside the country that you live in.

6. The different METHODS OF PAYMENT to accept.
If your business does not accept credit cards, you should be prepared to give up half, if not more, of your sales. Should you decide to accept credit cards, you can choose to use a Merchant Account or a third party credit card processing center. Both will help you get started; the third party processing center will handle all of the business so you don’t have to. Decide which you will use. It is essential to have a secure server when taking credit cards. You must also decide if you will accept checks or money orders.

These few things will help jump-start your Online Business to become a great success and also provide you with peace of mind knowing that you have thoroughly thought about, and planned for, the opening of your online business.

9 Characteristics That Millionaire Businesspeople Have in Common

Everyone wants the freedom to do business in the way they choose. There is so much power in running your own business – and having a business that runs itself, which for many people is the ultimate goal.

Making money is not the only goal of becoming an internet millionaire – it’s about freedom. Many people across the world are gifted with experiencing this freedom everyday. How can you become one of these people? What kind of life, and business, do you want to run? Would you like to be able to check your email from your private plane? These are the kinds of goals many people have in mind when they begin to forge ahead with their business ideas. But the truth is that the rich and the successful – the millionaires off and online – have about nine characteristics in common, not that different from a lot of people we all know. Most of them exhibit some or all of these. The truth is that we all have the potential for greatness – if we can train ourselves to keep this in mind as we go about our business day.

1. They don’t blame. Successful businesspeople don't blame others. Instead of making excuses for bad outcomes, or reassigning responsibility to others, they take time to learn from their own mistakes.

2. They are decisive. Millionaire-types have a vision. They take quick, decisive action aligned with that vision. They’re action oriented, always pushing forward toward their goals.

3. They trust their intuition. If something seems like it’s not quite right, they trust that instinct. If an opportunity excites them and sounds like a great idea, they go for it.

4. They are singly focused on their CORE business. Successful entrepreneurs may be inspired by ideas, but they always remain true to their vision. They focus on opportunities that are aligned with their business’s purpose. If you sell retail products on eBay, don’t try real estate investing the next day. They don’t lose focus. They may sell their products on eBay, write articles, focus on joint ventures, and go to marketing seminars, but all of their efforts, and FOCUS, help them move toward their main goals.

5. They are marketing focused. Millionaires, including such giants as Bill Gates, understand the importance of building on their core business. They hire people with specialties in marketing. They work hard at building their email lists, gaining exposure, and are constantly looking for ways to reaching a wider audience. If you want to build a decent income, you sell products and services. If you want to be insanely rich, then you create and control markets. The key to your business, and creating phenomenal success, is marketing.

6. They understand the importance of continuing education. Successful businesspeople are always learning and drawing from other people’s experiences. They listen to how other people have achieved their success, especially if these people have expertise in another industry. They are constantly learning about new approaches and strategies, and thinking about how they can apply it to their own business.

7. They are not afraid of making mistakes. Any big company online will tell you that they’ve had their share of downfalls, even such giants as eBay or Craig’s List. Mistakes are building blocks for success – by making mistakes, you learn what works, and what doesn’t. You don't have to get it right, you just have to get it going. We all make mistakes, and one of the most powerful things you can do is glean feedback from them. Feedback is a great way to learn from your customers and colleagues. You need to look at feedback and take it with a grain of salt - it helps you learn and grow. See your mistakes as learning lessons

8. They model their business for success. Internet millionaires model other people, strategies, and systems. They constantly look for models of success in everyday life and think about how to incorporate these lessons into their own strategy. They even look at their competition for answers. Whatever niche you're in, subscribe to some industry newsletters, buy their products, and learn HOW they create success.

9. They build a team to rely on. No matter what stage you are in with your business, you’ve got to realize that you simply cannot do it all. You can’t be an expert in everything. You want to create a great team of people. How can you find them? Go to seminars and workshops. Hone your networking skills. You’ll often find that like minded people that are out there constantly learning and attending, seminars and workshops. Getting rich is a team sport. You have to have people that are cheering you on, encouraging your success.

These are some inherent characteristics of business millionaires. Can you apply them to your business and your life, too? Of course you can. If you can keep these principles in mind, you’ve got the millionaire mindset. No, you aren’t going to get there overnight. Making a million dollars takes some time. You can’t make a million dollars if you haven’t made your first hundred. So focus on the first hundred, first thousand, and first hundred thousand. Thinking this way goes a long way toward your goals – finding success, gaining riches, and living the kind of life you want to live.

Branding Your Retail Store

Creating your identity can be a real challenge. Your brand image is what people feel and think when your store comes to mind. You’ll need to conform your services and products to the image that you choose, so choose wisely. Consider what types of items you want to sell. Consider your demographic. Consider your location. Research your competitors. Figure out what they’ve done that helped them become who they are. The most important part of branding your retail store is to be original; completely and utterly original. Your originality is going to be what people identify with your name.

Merchandise, store displays, counter displays, color, lighting, space, window displays, the hangers and racks you choose, all will go into branding your image. Be consistent with your theme. Create promotions that revolve around the brand that you want to project. Use your brand and advertise the idea in everything that goes into and out of your store. All advertising should clearly show the image that you want to project.

Your company logo also needs to be unique and trademarked. Your logo should appear in as many places as possible throughout the store. Print it on receipts, tags, walls, doors, outdoor advertising, print ads, on your website, and on every flyer and bag that leaves your store. Keep the image that you want to portray in mind when designing your logo. You may start with a drawing and craft the logo yourself. You can also hire and agency to design your logo for you. They will make sure that your logo will look good in small print, black and white or color, large print and even on billboards. Your logo should be in all the correct formats for printing, broadcasting and to use on your web site.

Use your logo and promote your brand by researching when and where to advertise. If you’re branding a high-end store, you probably shouldn’t advertise in a poor area of town or in a cheap sales paper. Stick to the areas that contain customers in the demographic you are targeting and flood that area. People can have an idea, impression and preconception about your store before they ever set foot in it. Don’t disappoint. Let your prospective customers know why you are unique. Claiming back your charges: Why it is important not to accept anything less than everything.

The High Court test case may have given the banks some time to get themselves organized for a potential flood of claims but consumers who already claimed compensation are starting to realize that they accepted offers well below what they were entitled to.

Millions of consumers who demanded refunds for bank penalty charges from their banks or building societies used standard complaint letters hoping that it would result in a decent and fair payout. In most cases, a letter of complaint would be sent asking for a refund of all penalty charges imposed for returned debits, bounced cheques and exceeding overdraft limits. In some cases the offers were less than 50% of the amount owed. The banks have had the last laugh in those cases. Accepting low offers in full and final settlement unfortunately has left many people with goodwill payments that are extremely short of the mark.

Receiving standard rejection letters should never put anyone off from fighting on. It is always worth poking away at the enemy to ensure that the complaint is investigated fully and to make sure you demand all your money with interest. It is astonishing how many people do simply get scared of bogus rejection letters from the banks. It is your money. Fight for it. Banks regularly charge referral fees of anything up to £35.00 and these charges build up with terrific speed. They can total up to figures well above the £2500 mark in most cases. To accept an offer of £500 is simply nonsensical.
